Reconciliation Resource - AITSL's Inter-cultural Development Toolkit
Understanding that teachers play a formative role in the lives of all Australian children, and that it is incumbent on each of us to continue to advance both our cultural competency development and wider reconciliation journeys, the Australian Institute for Teaching and School Leadership (AITSL) has recently released a freely accessible intercultural development toolkit, comprising:
- A self-reflection tool, to support educators to reflect on their self-awareness of worldviews, assumptions, attitudes, beliefs, and biases in relation to personal identity and culture.
- A continuum, to provide a shared language and understanding of intercultural development while reflecting the non-linear process of building cultural responsiveness.
- A capability framework, to learn more about one’s current stage of intercultural development and find recommended actions to support ongoing learning and improved teaching practice.
You can access the self-reflection tool as a starting point, then explore the framework and continuum for more information. Remembering that intercultural development is an ongoing journey, it is also good practice to re-visit these resources over time.
