Who We Are: Country/Place (Secondary)

overview

Students view a short video featuring five young Aboriginal people, and one young Torres Strait Islander man, speaking about their connection to Country. These hosts’ reflections provide an insight into what Country means to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, and the complexity of the relationship Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people have with the land, sea, sky and waterways. Students’ learning may also be supplemented by comparing this short video to other relevant and full-length films created or inspired by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. That is, students can be encouraged to focus on how Country and the intricate place-people interrelationship has been represented or communicated in each film so as to elicit both common themes and diverse perspectives.
